Charities and Programs We Support in Mill Creek

At Mill Creek Vision, we believe strongly in giving back to our community in Mill Creek, in addition to caring for their vision.  The outreach programs that we participate in offer us the wonderful opportunity to give back as we like and to showcase some of the significant initiatives that are found here in Mill Creek. We encourage our patients to join us in participating and/or giving to the movements that we enjoy working with.

Bausch & Lomb ONE by ONE Recycling Program

Standard recycling in the USA does not recycle the whole blister pack. Our recycling services recycles the entire blister pack.

The Bausch & Lomb ONE by ONE Recycling Program allows used contact lenses and packaging to be recycled properly, with the goal of reducing landfill waste associated with contact lenses

Bausch & Lomb have partnered with TerraCycle to create a free recycling program that wil recycle ALL brands of blister packs, including Vistakon, Alon, Coopervision and any other company blister pack besides their own Bausch & Lomb blister packs.

We would like to encourage our patients to drop off their used blister packs in our BioTrue recycling box.

More About Disposable Soft Contact Lens Recycling Program

This disposable soft contact lens (SCL) recycle program was launched by Bausch & Lomb, the BioTrue OneDay and Ultra SCL vendor.

The disposable SCL blister packs that contain the SCLs are made of a plastic body with a peel away foil top. In the USA even if you place the used blister packs in our Recycle garbage cans, these blister packs are not recycled. They are normally separated out and go to the garbage dumps.

Bausch & Lomb has partnered with Teracycle to recycle these blister packs. Bausch & Lomb and Teracycle will recycle ALL Brands of foil packs. They will recycle Vistakon, Alcon, Coopervision and any company’s blister pack in addition to their own Bausch & Lomb blister packs.

The ONE by ONE Recycling Program FAQs

What is the Bausch & Lomb ONE by ONE Recycling Program?

The Bausch + Lomb ONE by ONE Recycling Program allows used contact lenses and packaging to be recycled properly, with the goal of reducing landfill waste associated with contact lenses. It is the first sponsored contact lens recycling program from Bausch + Lomb and TerraCycle, a global leader in recycling hard-to-recycle waste.

The program was inspired by the green efforts of the Bausch + Lomb daily disposable manufacturing facility in Waterford, Ireland. In recent years, the facility has made strides in developing a more sustainable approach to reducing waste.

In the United States, Bausch + Lomb continues to dedicate efforts to reducing waste and energy consumption, with the establishment of over 60 recycling streams, and the installation of a solar array at the facility in Rochester, NY.

Why can't I recycle my contact lenses with my other plastic/recyclable items?

Due to the size of contact lenses and their packaging, these materials get filtered out at recycling facilities and directed to the waste stream, contributing to landfills across the United States.

What can I send in through this recycling program?

You can recycle waste associated with contact lenses, including:

  1. Contact lenses

  2. Top foil

  3. Opened plastic blister packs

Unopened blister packs are not accepted through this program and should not be included in your shipment.

Please note: Bausch + Lomb contact lens cardboard boxes are recyclable through regular municipal recycling. Please do not include them in your shipments through this program.

Can I only recycle Bausch + Lomb contact lens brands?

You may collect any brand of contact lens waste for this recycling program.

Do I need to clean the contact lens waste before I send it in?

No, you do not need to clean the waste before sending it to TerraCycle. However, please remove as much of the liquid from blister packs as possible before shipping.

How do I ship the waste to TerraCycle?

You may drop off your waste at your eye doctor’s office or print a free shipping label at BauschRecycles.com. After placing your waste in a sealed cardboard box, you can drop it off at a UPS location or schedule a pickup to ship from home.

Does my shipment have to weigh a certain amount before I can send it in?

No, your shipment can be any size.

What happens to the contact lens waste?

Once received, the contact lenses and blister packs are separated and cleaned. The metal layers of the blister packs are recycled separately, while the contact lenses and plastic blister pack components are melted into plastic that can be remolded to make recycled products.

Why should I participate?

Participating in the Bausch + Lomb ONE by ONE Recycling Program benefits our environment by reducing the amount of waste deposited to landfills across the country. As a thank you for your dedication, a $1 donation will be made to Optometry Giving Sight for every pound of accepted packaging sent through this program.

Why Recycling Contacts Is So Important

Mill Creek Lions Club
Volunteers at Your Service

This is a local service club of volunteers who provide many services for those in need. We have supported our community club by donating our vision exam services and Mill Creek Lions Club has provided eyeglasses for those who need assistance. They also recycle used eyeglasses and eyeglass frame cases for those in need in other countries. We have their wooden collection box in our optical.

Doctor Arima has been a member of the Mill Creek Lions Club for over 15 years. His father and uncle were also members of Lions Clubs. Lions Club International is the largest service organization in the world, with clubs in over 200 countries. Lions Clubs have had a history of supporting eye care, and they have even helped raise funds for cornea transplants. Club members have even volunteered to transport corneas between Seattle and other cities in the state. They collect used eyeglasses and eyeglass cases and distribute these to the less fortunate in other countries.

Club members also help us to provide eyeglasses and vision exams for the less fortunate in our community. Here are some of the reasons why Mill Creek Vision supports our Mill Creek Lions Club:

  • Eye Glasses & Hearing Aids for the needy
  • Service Dogs for the blind or deaf
  • Christmas food baskets for the needy
  • Scholarships for graduating seniors
  • Youth activities, such as Peace Poster Contest & Youth Exchange
  • Yard Cleanup / Home Repairs for the elderly
  • Blood Drives
  • Ronald McDonald House
